On the 5th July, we held our always enjoyable annual Reunion Day, with over 150 alumni from past years in attendance to celebrate and reminisce on their Latymer school days. The doors opened at 12 where once the alumni were checked in, they were then able to catch up with all their former friends and classmates, before heading to the Great Hall to enjoy a delicious Mediterranean inspired lunch. The atmosphere in the hall was merry, with several memories and stories shared, putting plenty of smiles on many faces. Outside on the football pitch, another edition of the fervently contested Latymer Old Boys tournament was taking place, with plenty of excellent football showcased. Once lunch had concluded back inside, our alumni had the opportunity to either meet up in designated classrooms for each year group, or receive a guided tour of the school, which was brilliantly run by our Year 7 students, who received excellent feedback throughout the day. In the Small Hall, attendees could enjoy a drink at the bar, skilfully manned by headteacher Mr Gilford, or observe some of our exhibitions, which included uniform displays and a showcase of the much-loved former school magazines in the LRC, with our librarian Ms Bugg. Our alumni were able to hark back on what life was like at Latymer for them, whilst witnessing the ever-evolving nature of the school today.
Lovely conversations between older Latymerians and current students playing music in the Small Hall. Merchandise was also available to purchase (and still can be here) with Dimeji (class of 2025) and current students Tara and Galen returning to expertly run the stall, which featured mugs, water bottles and keyrings just to name a few. Attention then turned to the significant part of the day, the school song. At 4.30pm everyone headed to the Great Hall to partake in a rousing rendition, beautifully capturing the fierce community spirit which is still so pertinent amongst Latymer students, past or present. Roland, class of 2025, played the school song on the organ, much to everyone's enjoyment. The day was not done there however, and eyes quickly diverted to the summer BBQ taking place outside, with a range of sumptuous seasonal food much enjoyed, alongside some drinks, with even the odd drop of July rain unable to deter positive spirits.
Class of 1985 (1978 joiners) Beatrice Cami, Alumni Relations Manager, who coordinated the event, would like to give a special thank you to all the volunteers who kindly gave their time to make the day such a success. Finally, a massive thank you to all our alumni who turned up in such jovial spirit and made Reunion Day yet another truly special occasion. We hope to see you back again next year, with Reunion Day set to take place on Saturday 4th July 2026! |
