Careers Fair 2025

A wonderful learning and experience sharing event, thanks to our former students!

On Friday 14th March, we held our annual Careers Fair which saw 192 Year 10 and over 170 Sixth Form students take part. The event featured over 45 speakers working at the forefront of their professions in a wide range of fields, such as finance, law, medicine and government.

Many of the speakers present were themselves former students - we would like to say a huge thank you to the following alumni for sharing their expertise and giving their time with so much enthusiasm:

Indrajit Advani (class of 1981, 1974 joiner), Emma Darlow Stearn (class of 2006), Max Doyle (class of 2011), Suhaib Habibullah (class of 2020), Subash Jayakumar (class of 1999), Cordelia Kafetz (class of 2001), Tristan Lockheart (class of 2020), Izaac Mammadov (class of 2019), Katie Moey (class of 2001), Brian Pope (class of 1975, 1968 joiner), Paul Rayner (class of 1993), Lisel Ryatt (class of 1987, 1980 joiner), Ravi Sawhney (class of 1997), Kirren Senivassen (class of 2006), Anish Shah (class of 1997), Jayesh Shah (class of 2004), Zacharia Silk (class of 2002), Faye Taylor (class of 2001), Chris Towndrow (class of 1976, 1969 joiner), Liam Walsh (class of 1999), Josie Wastell-Payne (class of 2013), as well Mike Jordanou (former parent).

The Latymer School is incredibly fortunate to be able to call upon so many talented alumni, who gave a glimpse into the working world to current students. The diverse range of career opportunities undoubtedly left the students with much excitement and hope for their professional prospects.

Year 10 student Akasha summarised the students' experience perfectly: "The Careers Fair was a great opportunity for all students to get a better understanding of their future career paths. It was also an excellent chance for everyone to ask questions, gather information and explore potential jobs they might not have considered before. I left with many insightful tips that I can use in life."

It was also so nice to see former students meet again after a number of years and share their latest updates with teachers like Mr Wakefield and Ms Heath.

Alumni also left some great comments on the day!

  • It was great to see the enthusiasm and curiosity of the sixth formers that I met on the day. I received some excellent questions and the students had, in many cases, really done their research before coming to see me. I look forward to attending future careers fairs, and think Latymer provides a great opportunity for its students via sessions like this.
  • This was a tremendous way to witness how some things change - indeed change is a constant. And yet others don't - ambition, curiosity, self-doubts, shyness. Alumni are honoured to be invited to such events and feel privileged to help present day Latymerians even if the help is small.
  • What a pleasure coming back to meet a new generation of Latymerians, to hear their career and academic ambitions and to share my experience in return. Aspiration is key, and I was glad to play a small part in helping demystify some areas of university and work at a time when they are making big life decisions.
  • I was really impressed with the quality of the sixth formers I met with and would have offered several of them a job on the spot in the days when I was recruiting!
  • Giving back to the school that gave me so much is always worthwhile. For a single day of your time you could help students for a lifetime.

After the Careers Fair, a few alumni enjoyed another walk down memory lane, this time walking around the buildings. Some hadn't changed that much but the (now) Sixth Form Common Room definitely created some debates about the different changes in that room over the years (from amphitheatre to its current use & format)!

The tour finished with a spot of laughter in front of old Year 13 school pictures, including Cordelia and Katie, both class of 2001, who spotted themselves on the picture!
