On the 4th and 5th July, the school held its Junior Drama production as a special 400th anniversary double bill! To celebrate the historic landmark, we kickstarted the evening with a 30-minute abridged version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream, featuring powerful performances from Years 7-9 students. This was a particularly inspired choice, as it called back to one of our earliest school productions of the same play back in the 1950s, with this choice keen to connect students both past and present. The second part of the double bill saw the same students acting and dancing the wonderful Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The show featured many much-loved songs such as Toot Sweets, Hush-a-bye Mountain, Truly Scrumptious and of course… Me 'Ol Bamboo, all of which captivated the audience and sent everyone home with a smile on their face. We were also delighted to welcome some alumni to the show to celebrate our special anniversary, with some travelling as far as the US to see it. Whilst the names on the programme may have changed, the dedication and enthusiasm for drama at Latymer has still very much remained! A massive thank you to all students and staff involved, particularly Ms Hammer, Head of Drama, and Sophie Hammer (class of 2014) for their tireless work in choreographing and delivering yet another entertaining and engaging production! If you have any pictures of past Drama productions, don't hesitate to email them to alumni@latymer.co.uk as we are looking at putting together a special photo gallery for Drama. |
