To round off an unforgettable year, we held a special 400th anniversary quiz in the Great Hall on the 7th December. It was a night to remember, as 14 teams battled, but only one team could be crowned the ultimate Latymerian Quiz Champion. On the night, there was a great mix of current and former students, parents, and governors/trustees in attendance. Dimeji (Class of 2024) commented, "It is uplifting to see such a diverse group of people come together to celebrate our school's 400th anniversary, and it reflects on the community that our school has built." The teams competed across 10 rounds ranging from sports to films to general knowledge, and we even had our very own special Latymerian round. Our quizmasters for the night were Ms Cobbett, Headteacher, and Isaac Li (Class of 2023) – they both did a wonderful job, raising the spirits of our guests with some Christmas singing by Isaac in the middle, which helped put us in that holiday mood (despite the terrible weather outside!). By the end of the final round, two teams were neck and neck, both with 77 points, so we had to go to sudden death questions. After a tense back and forth, the 'Dolbe Dragons' came out victorious and were crowned the 'Ultimate Latymerian Quiz Champions,' taking home the one-off trophy and proudly wearing their gold (paper) medals! Huge congratulations to Arwen and Gaia, Year 9 students, and their families. Arwen commented afterwards, "On Saturday night we won the Latymer quiz! Thank you very much to everyone who organised it. The atmosphere was thrilling, and the questions were great. Commiserations to all the other teams!" The 'Trust us' team, made up of former & current Trustees and their guests, got a very respectable third place, doing an amazing job representing alumni and former staff at this event. Jackie Hardie (former staff, governor and trustee), Dick Hibberd (Class of 1973), Sof Yiannakas (Class of 2005), Stephen Way (Class of 1974) and guests. The event helped to raise over £1,500 towards the 40 for 400 appeal. Thank you all for taking part and helping raise vital funds for the school! |
