Camille McCarthy speaking to Russian students
Monday, 24 March 2025

On Friday 7th March, Year 11-13 students were delighted to receive Camille McCarthy, class of 2020, in the Russian Department.

As Leila, Year 12, explains "Camille came to speak to give us an insight into what a language degree entails. Having studied Russian, French and English at A Level, Camille got accepted to study both foreign languages at the University of Cambridge.

This gave her the fantastic opportunity of spending her third year abroad studying at a university in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. There, she was able to improve her language skills by being immersed in the culture. In her final year at university, Camille decided to take additional Ukrainian language lessons, which she is continuing to this day.

She now works as a corporate investigator and thoroughly enjoys being able to constantly use her language skills in her work. She finds her Russian fluency to be particularly in demand in this area and goes as far as saying that it was her language capabilities that landed her her current job.

Many thanks to Camille McCarthy for taking the time to talk to us - it was truly enlightening and inspired many of us to either consider a degree in languages, or reassured the minds of those who had already chosen to do so!"

If you are interested in speaking to current students about your degree or career, please email Beatrice at alumni@latymer.co.uk. There are different opportunities from the Careers Fair to lectures and talks to specific classes.
